Revd Dr Richard Turnbull
Principal
BA (Reading), BA (Durham), MA (Oxon), PhD, CA
As Principal, Richard gives leadership to the Hall, teaches and represents the Hall externally, but above all seeks to inspire the students in their calling to Christian ministry, with a passion for Jesus, the Bible and evangelism.
After eight years as a Chartered Accountant in London and Southampton, Richard received a first class honours degree in Theology at Durham University and wrote his doctoral thesis on “Evangelical Theology and Social Reform in the Nineteenth Century.” During his eight years of parish responsibility as a vicar in Basingstoke, Richard has contributed in many ways to the wider work of the Church of England, as a member of the Archbishops’ Council, Chair of the Business Committee of the General Synod and Chairman of the House of Clergy of the Winchester Diocesan Synod. He has also chaired major church review committees. Richard was appointed Principal of Wycliffe Hall in 2005. Richard is married to Caroline and they have four children.
Richard teaches courses on Anglicanism, Anglican and Evangelical Identity and the Reformation. He researches, writes and speaks in these areas. He has recently published Anglican and Evangelical? (Continuum 2007) and is currently undertaking research projects in Evangelical Spirituality and The Future of Evangelicalism.
"A passion for the Bible, for evangelism and for local church leadership."
