To be a dynamic Christian community requires a deep rootedness in God, sustained through worship. As a college community we come together regularly to meet in Christ’s presence. We hear and respond to God’s Word. We are empowered by the Spirit as we open our hearts to him. We pray for each other and the needs of the world.
Our daily pattern of chapel worship allows for a diversity of worship styles and the exercise of a variety of spiritual gifts. The creative use of liturgy, music, drama, art and space is actively encouraged. The experience of joining together in community for daily worship is a rare privilege in the world today, and for many students this pattern becomes a key formational part of their life at Wycliffe.
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper weekly. Here the college family meets together as the body of Christ placing all that we are and all that we do in the context of Jesus’ death and resurrection. As Word and Sacrament come together, these times of worship can often be times of healing and restoration as well as challenge.
The Wycliffe community is an all-age community and therefore all-age worship in a variety of settings is integral to our community life.
Learning to lead worship and to speak from Scripture is part of the purpose of chapel worship, but the main purpose is to enjoy the presence of God as a living reality in the here and now. Chapel worship at Wycliffe is often inspiring, invigorating and refreshing.
There are a host of other worship opportunities within the community: prayer triplets, unstructured worship times providing ‘space for God’, weekly Compline, prayer ministry, individual retreats and spiritual direction. Furthermore, the discipline of stillness is encouraged through termly College Quiet Days. The part-time evening class students also meet for evening worship every Wednesday to which all members of the college are welcome. |
