Bachelor of Theology
This is a three-year degree course of the University of Oxford. It is designed specifically as preparation for Christian ministry, and has been recently revised to enhance this. Students at Wycliffe Hall are also involved in many other aspects of training.

Old Testament A New Testament A Christian Life and Thought Christian Witness & the Contemporary World
Year 2
New Testament B Biblical Interpretation Christian Doctrine Christian Worship
Year 3
Old Testament B Christian Ethics Christian Spirituality Mission and Ministry
- The BTh requires 12 papers. The University specifies 7 papers, and Wycliffe Hall selects 5 others from the options available to give a balanced course and to comply with ordination requirements.
- 4 papers are taken each year, about half by written exam in May and half by long essay in May or September, with some flexibility for individual preferences.
- Most students study Greek in their first two years. A few also study Hebrew in their final two years.
Teaching and Study
- · Most teaching is conducted by Wycliffe Hall staff in lectures and small group seminars.
- Most subjects have 16-24 core lectures with a few other optional lectures.
- Students may also attend university lectures.
- Each subject requires 4 college-assessed essays, as well as the university-assessed exam or long essay.
- The college library has many of the books and journals needed for these essays, and students have free access to the Theology Faculty Library and the university’s famous Bodleian Library.
