Community at Wycliffe Hall

Christians come to Wycliffe from all over the world and from many walks of life to study theology and be shaped for Christ-like service in the Church and in the world. This diverse community is a God-given environment for deep transformational work.  Ordinands rub shoulders with graduate students, families with single people, children with adults, reflective individuals with activists, academic thinkers with hands-on practitioners, prophets with people of prayer…  All are united in their commitment to follow Jesus Christ and to worship him. Our community is not necessarily always comfortable, but it is a place where God’s grace is at work. Belonging to this community is a rich and rewarding experience.

Each student belongs to a Fellowship Group led by a tutor. These groups become safe places for the sharing of personal stories, worship, Bible study and prayer. Fellowship Groups are responsible for the planning and leading of chapel services. There are specific groups for undergraduates and graduates in the college, where people in similar situations can share, pray, discuss and build friendships. Cell groups are sub-sets of the Fellowship Groups, meeting on a weekly basis. They are small enough to be intimate; to share needs for prayer and to find personal support from fellow students.

Worship is the heartbeat of the Wycliffe Hall community and it takes many forms in order to include as many members of the community as possible.

Families are an important component of our community and we strive to support them in a number of practical ways: find out about our crèche, Contact and marriage courses.

The Wycliffe community is close knit but not insular.  Students have many opportunities for development and recreation within one of the many local churches and the facilities of the city and the University of Oxford.
