Master of Theology in Applied Theology
This is an Oxford University degree, with a high academic standard, requiring an upper second class degree. It is suitable for those who have a degree in Theology which adequately covered the foundational disciplines of biblical, historical and doctrinal study. It is designed to provide further study related to applied Christian ministry.
Course Structure
Part 1
4 essays of 7,000 words
2 compulsory papers:
Doctrine, Context and Practice Experiential Project with Theological reflection
2 papers chosen from:
- Sociology of Religion
- Pastoral Psychology
- Science and Faith in the Modern World
- The Use of the Bible
- Christian Spirituality
- Liturgy and Worship
Christian Ethics
- Mission in the Modern World
- Inter-Faith Dialogue
Part 2
One dissertation of 15,000 to 20,000 words on an aspect of Applied Theology
Teaching and Study
- Teaching is given by lectures, seminars and tutorials, by staff of Wycliffe Hall or of other colleges. There is also a University-wide course of lectures and seminars in the first year on Fridays.
- Essay and dissertation titles are proposed by students to the MTh Studies Committee for approval.
- As well as the College Library, students have free access to the Theology Faculty Library and the Bodleian Library of Oxford University. The Bodleian is especially useful for compiling bibliographies and pursuing essay topics.
