“Love the Lord your God with all your strength”
Hands-on experience is a key part of ministerial formation at Wycliffe. During your training you will have access to a diverse range of practical placements, evangelistic opportunities and church settings so that you can explore fresh aspects of ministry, develop new skills and sharpen old ones. We will work hard to broaden your perspectives, and enable you to minister in a wide range of contexts. Students have enjoyed placements in churches (both in the UK and abroad), in hospitals and other healthcare environments, in prisons, homeless shelters, asylum centres, radio broadcasting and many other contexts. All of these are supervised both externally and at Wycliffe, challenging you and helping you to make connections with the other work which you are doing.
Developing your competence in expository preaching and other forms of Christian proclamation is high on the agenda, with weekly classes and workshops in biblical interpretation and preaching. This is supported by voice training and communication sessions and the opportunity to learn more about effective use of multi-media.
The residential context of training at Wycliffe is an environment where collaborative ministry and teamwork are encouraged. As adult disciples learning together we seek to share our experiences, skills and insights with each other.
Our aim is to prepare you for a ministry that is integrated with your personal identity and daily walk with Jesus, and to equip you with the resources, both inward and practical, to handle conflict, personal stress and other pressures that will impact on your ministry. In Paul’s words to Timothy, we want everyone to leave Wycliffe as ‘a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed’ (1 Timothy 4:6). |
