Two Year Ministerial Theology Courses

Wycliffe Hall offers several 2-year courses, with different emphases and benefits. All are excellent courses and provide very good training for ministry in the Church of England and elsewhere. In any case, much of the theological teaching and ministerial training is the same for all students, regardless of their exact course.

Wycliffe Hall often recommends a specific course, but sometimes leaves you the choice. The following information should help you to take that decision. Most students choose the Diploma, but some opt for the Certificate in Theology or the Mixed Mode Bachelor of Theology.

The Oxford Diploma in Ministry (ODM)

  • is a flexible course with a specific focus on preparation for ministry.
  • entails less written work and no exams.
  • involves more time for other aspects of training and for family life.

The Certificate in Theology is for those who:

  • want to gain a university award.
  • have the time for and interest in the significant amount of extra work.

The Bachelor of Theology (BTh 2+2) is for those who:

  • want to gain a university degree.
  • have the time for and interest in the extra work, both in college and later.
  • have the extra funding and the agreement of your supporting body.
