Family Life and the 'Contact' Group
Many of our students are single—with around 60 students living on site. These students form the core of Wycliffe’s residential community: strong friendships are formed giving the place a real sense of buzz.
Some of our students are married and live away from the main site. Their experience of Wycliffe is focused on the working week—with many trying to take only a limited amount of work back home with them!
Spouses are made very welcome at all college events and can attend lectures in the Hall. They are also welcome to register for particular courses. Spouses have dining rights and can eat up to 5 meals/lunches each week during term-time and can bring their children into lunch during the week and there is family lunch on Thursday, including Sunday lunchtime. So the dining-hall can become a hive of lively activity!
Contact
‘Contact’ is the group for spouses of an ordinand (whether male or female). It meets each Tuesday evening in term-time, giving an opportunity to hear visiting speakers and to discuss some of the joys and challenges of being married to a future member of the clergy! Contact can be a key resource—especially for those spouses who are in paid employment during the day.
In addition there is a Bible Study led by Contact’s own members, which is held after lunch each Thursday.
Crèche
Child care facilities are also available between 10:00 am and 12 noon on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings during term-time. A child can be left for a maximum of two sessions each week by prior arrangement and subject to availability — making this a brilliant opportunity for those with childcare responsibilities to get some space, to study God’s Word and to give and receive prayer support. “An oasis in the week!”
